Best Volunteering Programs Abroad

So you’re a nomad or wannabe nomad and you want to do something to give back to this beautiful earth! You want to develop a skill or use a skill to help communities, animals, or do something environmental. I’m here to give you options to get you to do something extraordinary and fulfilling.

Volunteering with Animals

If you’re being called to work with animals, here are some amazing charities to work with: African Wildlife Orphanage, which is one of the most successful wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation centres. Or would you like to get to know some elephants in Thailand? Or you could do some marine conservation experience in Belize? Or in the Great Barrier reef in Australia? Or maybe you’d like to work with turtles in Montezuma? The world is your oyster! (Excuse the pun!)

Volunteering with Communities

Learning about different cultures and helping communities can be so rewarding and humbling. One of my most enlightening experiences was volunteering with 22stars. It’s a charity based in Uganda providing work to the woman war survivors who make a living by making paper bead jewellery which they ship worldwide and also a charity that sends 500 and counting to school to get an education. If you’d like to get involved, I recommend doing their social nomad workation. Find the link here.

So if you’re a doctor, nurse, or healthcare professional, you may want to offer your skills to help people who are struggling or can’t afford healthcare. Here is an amazing charity based in Costa Rica.  Or if you’re becoming a vet, you can help treat animals in Africa. Check out this opportunity.

If you’d like a unique experience, you could also teach English in Buddhist monasteries in Nepal or help with woman’s literacy in Sri Lanka. You could also help feed the homeless in Lisbon and sustainability community development, Other charities include: Helping feed the homeless in Lisbon or sustainability community development in Cambodia.

Environmental Volunteering

Maybe you like the idea of going into the wild and making a difference through volunteering in sustainability and environmental projects. One great program is in Sri Lanka where you help with reforestation, waste management, and mangrove restoration projects. Or construction and rebuilding in Nepal. Or maybe you’d prefer Bali?

Start at Home

If you’re wanting to give something back, but are not ready to travel, why not do a litter pick on your local beach? Or help at your local homeless shelter? Or even spend more time with elderly grandparents and see what they need help with. You can make a difference wherever you are!

These are just ideas to get you thinking. If you’d like to chat about this deeper, I’m always happy to chat, send an email to dina@dinapyramid.com. Until then, hope this inspires a positive experience for you and many!
