Being a digital nomad isn’t just sitting on the beach with a pina colada and a laptop. And yes, it is one of the things a digital nomad can do, but being able to travel and live freely is so much more than just a pina colada on the beach. As someone who has travelled my whole life, I enjoy adventure, where sometimes I stay in a 5* hotel or cruise, other times I am hitchhiking across Europe to get to Morocco camped up in a tent in a service station or staying on someone’s sofa couchsurfing and making new friends. At the moment, I am called to have a base close to friends and part-time travel. So I am spending a month or two in another country on an adventure, and then I return to a routine and familiar faces. The joy of being a digital nomad is the freedom I get to do whatever I like, make as much money as I need, and surround myself with the people that I enjoy. Since COVID I have done my best to make memories with friends and family. Time is precious. Enjoy it with the people you love. Don’t always chase the next adventure or get too focused on your bucket list.
I haven’t had an easy life, but it’s been a full life. From an upbringing that involved my parents divorcing; not seeing my mum for years; experienced true love with an amazing partner; a few years ago when I was chasing my bucket list, I was declared missing by my family and the U.K. government was looking for me; and then in COVID, I was put into an immigration centre until there was the first flight out of the country back to the U.K.. But on the other side of this, I have swam with turtles, seen a few great wonders of the world, met some of the most kindest and generous people from all different types of cultures, and have an amazing relationship with friends and family. I have businesses that I love and always enjoy learning to find out how I can contribute to society. I don’t want to escape society, I want the best for society… but also to do things MY way and in a way I enjoy, so it doesn’t feel like work. I feel grateful that the universe for making me humble, but still empowering me to live my best life.
One thing I have learned from life is to have no judgment. We are all on our path and sometimes you don’t have full control over what happens, but without a plan and dreaming big, you’ll end up living a mediocre life. SEE THIS BLOG POST AS A SIGN. Choose a full life. Don’t be afraid to dream bigger, start a business, speak to your crush, try that experience, travel solo… whatever it is… don’t be the person who didn’t try.
